Julianna Burkey

Hi, my name is Julianna Burkey.  I grew up on a dairy farm in Brandon, Minnesota.  I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education (Social Studies) and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education (Emotional/Behavior and Specific Learning Disabilities) from Minnesota State University Moorhead.  In addition to teaching, I have been a paraprofessional, reading interventionist, and coach.  I have been teaching at Sauk Centre Elementary School since 2016.  I live in Sauk Centre with my husband, son, daughter, dog, and cats.  Outside of school, I enjoy gardening, camping, and playing games with family and friends.  “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”  Compassion, dedication, trust, and determination built by the team is important for every child to succeed.

Amy Moldenhauer

Hello!  My name is Amy Moldenhauer and I graduated from high school knowing that helping kids was my passion!  I earned my Bachelor's degrees in Elementary and Special Education at The University of Missouri - St. Louis.  After teaching 6 years in Missouri’s public and private schools, I met and married Dan, and moved to Minnesota.  My opportunity to join Sauk Centre Elementary School full-time came in 2011 when I joined the Minnesota Reading Corps to help tutor struggling readers.  In 2012 I was hired as a Special Education teacher, in 2014 I added “Title One teacher” to my resume, and these days you can find me teaching students in Special Education, as well as the Title One program, at both Sauk Centre Elementary and Holy Family Schools.  My husband and I love living in the middle of Minnesota, and when I am not working we enjoy playing with our dog at home, spending time with my husband’s Search & Rescue Unit (CLSAR), and traveling to see family.

Sherri Thoennes

Hi, my name is Sherri Thoennes. I have always wanted to be a teacher, and am very proud to have accomplished my dream! In 2008 I graduated from St. Cloud State University (SCSU) with an Elementary Education degree and emphasis in Science. For two years I was a substitute teacher. In 2011 I went back to SCSU to obtain a Special Education degree in Emotional/Behavioral and Specific Learning Disabilities. I started teaching full-time in 2012 as a special education teacher. In 2016 I acquired my Masters in Special Education from SCSU. I joined Sauk Centre Elementary in January of 2017. I enjoy spending time with my husband and two sons with activities involving the great outdoors! My family enjoys spending time at our cabin, which is located near Lake George. I love helping students grow to be successful lifelong learners!

Hello, my name is Ashley Thompson. I graduated from Sauk Rapids-Rice High School in 2006. While attending St. Cloud State University (SCSU) I discovered my passion for teaching. I graduated from SCSU in 2010 with a Bachelors of Science in Special Education. I began my teaching career in Big Lake where I taught elementary special education. Afterwards, I taught for 3 years in Little Falls as a special education evaluation teacher. I started teaching at Sauk Centre Elementary in 2016. I live near Sauk Centre with my husband, stepdaughter and 2 dogs. I enjoy spending time with my family, fishing, camping, and four-wheeling. I look forward to the many new adventures of teaching here at Sauk Centre Elementary.

Lori Uphoff

My name is Lori Uphoff.  I grew up in Sauk Centre.  I earned my special education degree in 2005 from St. Cloud State University in the area of Developmental Cognitive Disabilities.  I completed my Masters in Education from Southwest Minnesota State University in 2010.  In 2013 I added Autism to my licensure.  I am married to Kevin and we have three amazing girls Megan, Abigail and Hannah.  In my free time I enjoy stamping, scrap booking, spending time with my family and going to the lake.  My goal as a teacher is to help my students become as independent as possible.
