    Dear Families and Community Members:

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year!  The beginning of each school year certainly brings with it a tremendous amount of excitement and enthusiasm.  This year, I believe there is an added level of excitement…just a little more than usual!  The Sauk Centre School District has a number of new and exciting things happening for our students and families.

As we open the doors to the 2019-20 school year, we will literally be opening “new” doors!  We are excited that all three of our main entrances will now be secure entrances!  This means that whenever someone comes to school after the school day has started, they will be required to enter through an office to sign in before gaining access into the school.  This will certainly add a level of security for our students and staff that we have not had before.  This has been a needed change and is exciting to see this change become a reality.  Students in grades 9-12 using the locker rooms will also see a huge improvement as our locker rooms have seen a major infrastructure upgrade!  This is also an exciting and much needed change.

In schools, one of the more exciting things that happen each year is the addition of new staff members.  I am thrilled to introduce you to the newest members of our Streeter Team!  Please help me welcome the following new teachers:

                        Michelle Winters – Secondary English
Kevin Kuefler – Secondary Health and Phy Ed
                        Trent Johnson – Kindergarten
Claudette Schaeffer – Middle School Science
                        Heather Thiesen – Secondary Counselor
Jenna Klaphake – Secondary Social Worker
Shauna Parson – School Psychologist (Part-time Elementary)
Claire Vincent – School Psychologist (Part-time Secondary)

I am confident this group will have a tremendously positive impact on our school and students!!  Welcome to Sauk Centre Schools, we’re excited you’re here!

Another significant and exciting change for the 2019-20 school year includes the relocation of our 5th and 6th grade students.  Because of space challenges in our elementary, the  5th and 6th grade students will be relocated to the south end of our building.  As a result, our 5th and 6th grade students and families will enter through the Junior High secured entrance and will also utilize the the 5th -8th grade office located in the Junior High.

In addition, our district has added a CEO (Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities) Program.  We have partnered with the Melrose and Albany School Districts along with multiple businesses from our three school districts to provide a very unique educational experience called the West Stearns Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities (WSCEO). We have also added a Physical Education Teacher so that all our K-6 students will have Phy Ed everyday!  As mentioned earlier, we have also added a Secondary School Social Worker to help provide additional support to our students and families!

While our district continues to change and move forward, there are some things that you have come to expect from the Sauk Centre Schools that will not change.  Among the many things that won’t change during the upcoming year include our entire staff’s commitment to excellence and our dedication and professionalism to all our students and families while continuing our goal of providing high-quality programming, curriculum, activities and facilities.

As always, I encourage you to become involved in our student’s education and in the Sauk Centre Schools learning community.  The outcome of communities and schools working together can truly be phenomenal!  On behalf of the entire staff at Sauk Centre Public Schools, I am excited about the upcoming school year and welcome you to the new school year!  My goal and wish for all is to have an exciting and rewarding 2019-20 school year!
