Each speech(publicaddress)musthavebeendeliveredbythespeakerbeforethespeaker'sintendedoriginal audience. Forexample,"SermonontheMount"isBiblicalProse;"Antony'sFuneralOration"isShakespearean Drama. Thecontestant'sanalysisshouldconveythedelight,edification,andchallengeofcontemporaryor historical publicaddress.

A minimumof25%ofthepresentationmustbethecontestant'sownmaterial.Howportionsoftheoriginalspeech text areincorporatedintotheparticipant'spresentationshallbeatthediscretionoftheparticipant.Statements, analysis andexpositionmaybeeitherinterspersedthroughoutthepresentationorcontainedinonlyoneorafew portions ofthepresentation.
For purposesofdocumentation,thestudentisrequiredtoprovideacitationindicatingthesourceofthe selected speechwithinthewrittenandoraltextofthestudent’sspeech.Recordedspeechesmaybe used onlyiftheirtextshavealsobeenpublishedinprintoronline.
A copyofthescriptmustbefiledwiththeContestManagerbeforeeachcontest.Updatedcopiesofthe script mustbesubmittedatSubsection,Section,andStatelevels.
The useofascriptisoptional,provideditisnotusedasaprop.
THE MAXIMUMTIMEOFTHEPRESENTATIONSHALLNOTEXCEEDTEN(10)MINUTES.IFTHESPEAKER HAS BEENWARNEDTHATTIMEHASEXPIRED,THESPEAKERMAYONLYFINISHTHESENTENCE ALREADY BEGUN.
