Who: 10th through 12th graders can take the assessment, but 11th graders may benefit most from it.

What:The ASVAB assesses a student’s ability to learn new skills and is a predictor of success in training and education programs. It covers areas including science, word knowledge, mathematics, and mechanical comprehension.

Where: The ASVAB is administered at the school during the school day; the assessment usually takes around 3 hours to complete.

When: Sauk Centre usually offers the ASVAB once a year in the fall. It is free for all students and you will have the opportunity to sign up in the 9-12 office.

Why: One reason to take this assessment is if you are interested in joining any branch of the military. The ASVAB is used to determine what positions a person qualifies for in the armed services. Another reason to take the assessment is for the career exploration element. Your scores will include three Career Exploration Scores that correlate your current strengths and weaknesses with potential careers you may be interested in. You also receive access to the OCCU-find website, which allows you to explore all elements of the career you may be interested in.
