The Sauk Centre Mainsteeter Girls Basketball team fell in the title game to an oustanding squad from Roseau. The Streeters jumped to a quick 13-3 lead, before the Rams charged back to take the lead. Sauk Centre came out on fire after the half and scored on their first 8 baskets, but were never able to climb closer than 6 points. The Streeters wrapped up a very exciting and successful season finishing with a record of 31-2, falling only to Class 4A Anoka and the eventual state champions from Roseau. The Streeters contine their quest for a state title as they face Watertown-Mayer in state tournament semifinals on Friday at 8 PM at Williams Arena.
1st Round Game:
The Mainstreeters ran to victory against the much taller Minnehaha Academy Redhawks in opening round of the state tourament, winning 74-64 to advance. Falling behind early by as many as 11 points, the Streeters simply overpowered and outran a wilting Redhawks squad. Led by the deadeye 3-point shooting of Jill Klaphake, a dangerous fast break, and a swarming, relentless defense, the Mainstreeters proved the deserved the #2 overall seed.
